Printing sustainability statement

The IOA is committed to protecting the planet by minimising the impact our printed material has on the environment. We support and encourage our partners to use materials from sustainable sources and to reduce environmental impacts where practicable.

The Acoustics Bulletin is printed by Warners Midlands (https://www.warners.co.uk/). Warners Midlands Plc is committed to continually improving their environmental performance. They undertake environmental impact studies and seek to protect the environment through the reduction of raw material use, reduction in energy use, landfill avoidance, and recovery, recycling and use of waste materials wherever practical.

The Acoustics Bulletin is printed on 115 gsm woodfree gloss. The paper is supplied by : SAPPI (https://www.sappi.com/), and is a certified FSC paper : (https://fsc.org/en) This means that the paper has been responsibly harvested so that:

·         there is no net loss of forest over time;

·         plant and animal species are protected;

·         all workers are provided with proper training, adequate safety protocols   and fair wages; and

·         local communities living in and around forest areas are consulted and their legal and cultural right to land and forest resources are respected.

SAPPI puts sustainability at the heart of everything they do and sets ambitious targets aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. More information can be found at : https://www.sappi.com/sustainability-and-impact

There is no varnish or seal used during the printing process and the magazine is bound using a metal stick which can be recycled.

Currently all inks used by Warners Midlands Plc are oil based and there are currently no plans to switch to vegetable oils; however, an environmental impact study will be undertaken on the introduction of the next sheetfed press due to be operational mid-2024.
