IOA Southern Branch
THE NEW WHO ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE GUIDELINES 2018 FOR THE EUROPEAN REGION
6.00pm for 6:30pm start.
Tuesday 7 May 2019
Council Chambers, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council,
London Road, Basingstoke RG21 4AH
The Southern Branch of the IOA invites you to join us on the presentation and discussion session of the new WHO Guidelines by Dani Fiumicelli from Temple Group.
In October 2018 the WHO European Region published the WHO Environmental Noise Guidelines for the European Region as a regional update. The Guidelines include a review of evidence on the health IOA Southern Brancheffects of environmental noise including sleep disturbance, annoyance, cognitive impairment, mental health and well-being, cardiovascular diseases, hearing impairment and tinnitus, and adverse birth outcomes.
The WHO European Region Environmental Noise Guidelines replace the WHO Community Noise Guidelines published 19 years ago. The guidelines focus on the WHO European Region and provide policy guidance to Member States based on the noise indicators used in the European Union’s Environmental Noise Directive primarily in terms of Laden. However, a number of questions arise regarding the application of the new guidelines, for example:
- How have they been derived?
- What's the evidence base?
- How do the new Guidelines fit with UK noise policy and guidance?
- Are there any "unintended consequences" of adopting the new guidelines?
- How might the new guidelines be used?
The presentation will address these questions and other points, with a view to informing debate and discussion among those present.
The event is free to members of the IoA, as well as to students and the public. As numbers are limited, to register for this event, please go to the registration page at:
