BS4142: How to rate the impact of sound from industrial and
commercial premises from 2019 onward
Philip Dunbavin

British standard 4142: Methods for Rating and Assessing Industrial and Commercial Sound has been used in both planning applications and in noise complaints. It involves an assessment of a source of noise and giving it a noise impact ‘rating’ based on a comparison between the noise which is being assessed and the background noise which would exist in the absence of that source. BS 4142 has now been updated by BSI and we have invited Philip Dunbavin, one of the authors and Committee Chair of the BSI Committee, to provide environmental health professionals with an overview of some of the changes. The amended standard will be published by BSI on 27 June to coincide with this webinar.

This webinar is a collaboration between CIEH and the Institute of Acoustics. It will provide an overview of the British Standard as a whole as well as highlighting the key changes in the new publication. All webinar participants will be emailed a link to the published standard after the webinar has taken place.

Please note that if you cannot take part in this live webinar, you should still register to receive the on-demand recording shortly after the live broadcast. All CIEH webinars are now available to members on MyCIEH under "My Resources".

Following the webinar CIEH will send an email via the Gotowebinar platform to all those who registered (attendees and non-attendees) which includes a link to the webinar recording. We will  also include a link to the BSI Shop. CPD emails will only be sent out to those who attended the whole session. CPD certificates are subject to our T&Cs
