The event is part of a wider London South Bank University lecture series around applied research and new opportunity. Sonible.com has developed innovative 3D audio technology, in particular the IKO Loudspeaker, The event will consist of a publically accessible lecture given by artists and researchers, the first UK demonstration of the technology, an immersive performance using the sound system, followed by a discussion on applications of the novel technologies. .
The IKO speaker is a spherical loudspeaker system that enables directional sound diffusion through innovative use of technology and presents a new way for producing immersive sound environments. Unlike conventional speaker systems, IKO spatialises sound using the strengths of wall reflections. The developers describe it is as “a new manifestation of spatial sound in contemporary computer music” that is as much an instrument as a playback system, raising new possibilities for the composer”.
The event will be useful to artists, music lovers, composers, experts in audio technology and acoustics, and performers. Come and enjoy this unique opportunity to experience sound and music!
This event has been jointly organised by the Sonic Arts Group and the Acoustics Research Group of London South Bank University with the support of the UK Acoustics Network (acoustics.ac.uk) under the umbrella of the Institute of Acoustics.
