The best 2018-19 IOA Diploma projects undertaken by students at the London South Bank University will be presented. NTI-Audio will present a prize to the winner of the best LSBU IOA Diploma final project award.
Please read below the abstracts of finalist projects to be presented at the meeting.
1.The aim of the project was to investigate the propagation of sound from one and two storey light-wells and connected basement vaults to receiver positions above the light-well openings. Representative light-wells were identified and measurements of reverberation times and average sound pressure levels in the light-wells were taken with a sound source in the light-well producing pink noise. The light-wells were modelled acoustically as small rooms with openings treated as area sound sources. Directivity and end reflection effects were considered.
2. This project aimed to determine whether aircraft Reduced Engine Taxi (RET) technique can be detected by sound level meters and to identify common acoustic factors of RET. Unfortunately, the data did not show clearly identifiable RET characteristics, nor any consistent correlations of noise levels to taxi speed. The sample of recordings was arguably small; however, correlations should be emerging even in a sample of this size.
