Acoustics of schools for SEN
Thursday 2 July 2020
The Southern Branch of the IOA invites you to join us for a presentation of Acoustic design of schools for SEN children, presented by Ian Rees from Adrian James Acoustics.
“This talk will explore the acoustic requirements for schools teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). We will discuss the expanded definition of SEN set out in Building Bulletin 93 2015 and the duties placed on schools by the 2010 Equality Act, 2012 School Premises Regulations and BB93 2015 to provide for SEN pupils.
We will consider practical acoustic requirements for teaching children with cochlear implants and present examples of how to meet BB93 RT requirements for SEN classrooms where exposed soffits are required for thermal purposes. We will also discuss the SEND tribunal process and what happens when it all goes wrong.”
The event is free to members of the IOA, as well as to students and the public.
