About the talk:
Geoff Kerry’s work on uncertainty is important in highlighting this little talked about area of acoustics. In academic studies uncertainty may be estimated and stated as part of a research project. Some standards require an uncertainty statement or value be reported. However, it is very common for uncertainty to be hidden within assessments and/or for it to be ignored when predicting or verifying assessment outcomes. It is time we talked about it more openly. This short technical talk will aim to review some of Geoff’s work and the potential use of uncertainty budgets in assessments, provide real world examples of quantifying assessment uncertainty, and implications of not being open about uncertainty when verifying assessment outcomes.
In this talk, the attendees will be encouraged to contribute the talk may break into a discussion/workshop.
