Abstract
This is a joint talk from Hoare Lea and Mason UK, regarding the retrospective isolation of a Grade 1 listed building in London. The talk examines the modelling and surveys used to characterise, confirm criteria, and provide an isolation specification, and how isolation bearings were introduced to isolate the building from rail vibration. The combined effort gave a new lease of life to an existing and valuable structure, without implication to the interior layout and design. The work could be applied to any building being redeveloped or repurposed near a groundborne vibration source.
The talk will be followed by a short Q&A session.
Bio
Nikhilesh Patil is a Principal Vibroacoustics Engineer at Hoare Lea specialising in groundborne vibration and control. His expertise covers complex vibro-acoustic issues encountered in the sensitive buildings close to rail. The work often involves use of detailed whole building modelling with diagnostic testing to optimise design and reduce uncertainties.
Adam Fox is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer at Mason UK specialising in vibration control and isolator design. His experience covers architectural, structural, and mechanical acoustic and vibration control, and he has been responsible for design and implementation of multiple structural isolation projects for both new and existing buildings.
