Controlling noise resulting from impact in new and existing structures is a long-standing problem. The most common sources being gymnasia free weight zones and treadmills, it is difficult to quantify and to be confident of the best control measures. Physical testing carried out by Salford University has formed the basis of efforts by Mason UK and Hoare Lea to understand the problem. This talk looks at the results of the research, discusses what was learned and how the information can be used to inform project work.
