Midlands Branch Evening Meeting
Professional Practice Guidance on Planning & Noise
A Presentation by Colin Cobbing, Arup
Thursday 24 May 2018: 6pm for a 6.30pm start
WSP, One Queens Drive, Birmingham, B5 4PJ

The Professional Practice Guidance on Planning & Noise (ProPG) was developed by a Working Group consisting of representatives of the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC), Institute of Acoustics (IOA) and Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

The guidance encourages good acoustic design for new residential development. Good acoustic design is a holistic design process that aims to create places that are both comfortable and attractive to live in, where acoustics is considered integral to the living environment.

Colin Cobbing first introduced the concept of good acoustic design soon after the introduction of the National Planning Policy Framework in 2012.  He was part of the group which sought to have noise recognised as a key planning consideration and the need for Government planning guidance.  He was also instrumental in setting up the ProPG working group and was a core member throughout.

Colin will provide a brief summary of the guidance and its intent.  He will also consider some general design matters and issues associated with good acoustic design.  Hopefully this will pave the way for a discussion about how the guidance is being applied and whether it is delivering good design outcomes or not.

Attendance is free, no need to book, everyone welcome.  CPD certificates will be provided.

To assist security in printing passes please contact young.youn@arup.com.  All other matters attending the event or if you have any queries please contact Young.

As it is traditional for IOA Midlands Branch meetings those attending are cordially invited for a meal at a local Indian restaurant after the meeting. Please let Young Youn (young.youn@arup.com) know if you would like to come, so we can book a table.
