This year, 2019, has been an exciting and important year for the acoustics industry, with the release of the UKAN ‘Sound Economy’ report, a more joined up approach to STEM from the IoA, and all of the work on the new ‘award winning’ Acoustic Apprenticeship. This meeting is a series of shorter talks to get you up to date on all of these initiatives, and to ask you to get involved.

Richard Craster is co-Director of the UK Acoustics Network, and a co-author of the Sound Economy report. He is also a Professor at Imperial College London in Mathematics, and a member of the Mechanical Engineering department. From the 1st January he will become Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial College. In Mathematics Education he chaired the A-level content advisory board for Mathematics, and chairs the advisory board of an education charity, Mathematics in Education and Industry.

Matt Muirhead, a principal acoustician at AECOM with expertise in transport and environmental noise, chairs the recently formed IOA STEM group and will provide an update on what the institute is doing to enthuse young people about acoustics and its strategy for supporting and promoting acoustics based STEM activity going forward.

Richard Grove is Acoustics Director in BDP’s London Studio and Chair of the Acoustics Technician Apprenticeship Trailblazer Group.  His talk aims to provide an overview of the Acoustics Technician Apprenticeship and how it can assist companies of all shapes and sizes to bring new people into the industry in the future.
