Our last event for 2021 will be a very special one, hosted at the Winchester Science Centre.
The oceans have for many years provided a rich source of minerals and protein (i.e. seafood) along with providing critical transport links. In the future, this exploitation of the oceans seems destined to continue. One of the consequences of human activity in the marine environment is the increased level of underwater noise. This noise has the potential to disturb a range of marine life. This talk will focus on marine mammals and their use of sound and consider the impacts that anthropogenic noise might be having on them.
Apologies for the change of plan and we still hope to see as many of you as possible at what still promises to be a great event.
A reception with drinks and mince pies will be available on arrival, in the Bio:Space room. This is adjacent to the Sound, vibration and hearing exhibition, which will be open for a quick visit before the talk. Attendees will also enjoy a complimentary planetarium show to close off the evening.
This event is free to members of the IOA and students.
