Three of the best 2020-21 IOA Diploma final projects undertaken at the London South Bank University (LSBU) will be presented. NTI-Audio UK managing director will present a prize to the winner of the 2020-21 best LSBU IOA Diploma final project award.

Please read below the abstracts of finalist projects to be presented at the meeting. 

1.           Gymnasiums are very complex spaces for noise emission that could be of levels that are detrimental to human health, comfort and enjoyment. This research project discusses the current lack of standardisation in gym acoustic quality, and the relevant methods and criteria that could be used as part of an assessment. A case study is then undertaken of a public gym located in Kent, UK.

2.           This study investigates the hypothetical transformation of a public house in a residential area into a recording studio with a live room and control room and examines the acoustic challenges thrown up by such a repurposing of space. The study aims to offer solutions to acoustical challenges by presenting construction methods and materials for the shell and core of the building as well as looking at means of acoustic control within rooms.

3.           Low-Frequency pollution from concerts is a significant trigger for community complaints.The existing guidelines primarily consider an A-weighted criterion. Often the associated low-frequency advice is regrettably misinterpreted, where the resultant regulations are unachievable and ignored. This project aims to investigate the benefits & limitations of C-weighted assessment at source as an alternative to the current practice. The findings indicate C-weighting assessment at the source provides several advantages over A-weighted alone.
