Environmental Sound Group's Spring Meeting
HOW DO WE APPLY SOUNDSCAPE IN PRACTICE?
An introductory discussion on taking soundscape research into industry practice.
Monday 11 March 2024
at 12:30 - 14:00 on Zoom
Speakers:
Francesco Aletta, UCL,
Martin McVay, Welsh Government
Peter Rogers, Sustainable Acoustics
Jack Harvie-Clark, Apex Acoustics
Since the release of ISO 12913 (Acoustics – Soundscape, Parts 1-4), soundscape research has flourished, and there is a growing interest in understanding how acoustic environments affect human perception. The appetite to better understand and utilise the perception of an acoustic environment on humans has never been stronger, and its application has the potential to promote a more pleasant environment and significantly improve wellbeing within our built environment. Although the research outcomes are now filtering through into policy, the application of this in assessment and design is not well established.
This discussion will allow IOA members to consider the challenges and possible solutions. Our speakers will cover an overview of the latest applicable research, how soundscape is coming into policy, and discuss examples of how it has been applied to project work by UK acoustic consultants. We warmly welcome your participation in this discussion.
The session is a joint venture by the IOA’s Environmental Sound and Noise and Health Groups and will be chaired by Adam Thomas (Arup).
