The IOA Early Careers group would like to invite all members and non-members alike to a new mini-series accompanying the ‘Art of Being a Consultant’.
With the in-person event currently planned for Autumn 2021, we are putting together a series of lunchtime talks.
For each webinar we are inviting a range of seasoned consultants to join our panel and provide an informal discussion surrounding topics not usually covered in the main event.
The following, hourly webinars will be held on Thursdays at 12.30 pm:
1 April - Career Paths & the Role of Failure in Careers and Consultancy – routes into acoustics, what does it take to succeed, how to deal with failure15 April - Consultancy in the Virtual World – working with remote teams – both internal and external, impact on communication, managing time while working on your own- 29 April - How to get a Job (at your company) and the Importance of Networking – we will ask directors of some consultancies what do they look for in the candidates, how to approach interviews in the remote settings and why networking is important
- 13 May - Clear Calculations and Strong Writing – how to design calculations and write reports so they are clear and to the point while avoiding mistakes
- Special Event – Thursday 27 May at 5pm - Expert Witness – What is expert witness, plus a bonus – mock trial in virtual setting
The Art of Being a Consultant is a long-running event aimed at young consultants, those new to the profession and students who are considering a career in acoustics. Presentations cover a wide range of issues that are bread and butter for any consultant.
All speakers are practicing consultants and their combined wealth of knowledge of the industry is extensive. The events are organised yearly on a rotation in London, Southampton and Salford. This years, 2021, the event is planned for the Autumn in Salford.

The event is free to attend and open to IOA members and to non members.
