The Royal Festival Hall at 70
Presentation by Bridget Shield MBE
Monday 20 September 2021
2pm by Zoom

The Royal Festival Hall opened in May 1951, as part of the Festival of Britain exhibition on the south bank of the River Thames in London.  It is the only surviving building from the original exhibition site

This talk will look at the original design of the hall, the pioneering research which led to various innovative aspects of concert hall design and the team - architects, acousticians and musicians – which was responsible for the 1951 design.   Reactions to the hall over the past 70 years will be considered and changes made to the acoustic design of the auditorium since 1951 will be discussed.
