In July 2021 updated technical guidance was published by the Environment Agency (EA). This guidance sets out how UK environment agencies assess noise, legal requirements for managing noise, noise impact assessments and noise management plans. This 2021 guidance replaces the old H3 "horizontal" guidance and relies on noise impact assessments made using the recently updated BS4142 assessment method. Jon Tofts from the EA will be presenting an overview of the changes and updates to the guidance along with guidance as to how it should be used. This will lead on to a workshop providing attendees an opportunity to discuss the implementation of this guidance.
Jon is a Technical Advisor for Noise at the Environment Agency. He has over 15 years’ experience in industrial noise regulation and is a guest of the BSI EH/1/3 committee for BS 4142. His role in the EA National Noise Team is in training EA staff and he is currently writing a training programme that covers the whole of EA noise regulation
