Low Frequency Attenuation with Natural Ventilation: Noise Control Solutions based on Acoustic Metamaterials
Dr Daniel Elford, Sonobex
Wednesday 10 August 2022
13:00 - 14:00

Sonobex, now part of the Merford Group, is an award winning specialist acoustics research and development company, acoustics consultancy and noise control solution supplier.  Sonobex has developed a range of innovative solutions, including the first commercially available acoustic panel based on the principles of acoustic metamaterials.

Sonobex will introduce its range of acoustic metamaterial-based solutions: NoiseTrap LF Acoustic Panels, that have been successfully used in mitigating low frequency noise in electricity substation and power transformer applications, and its latest developments with NoiseTrap Blox, that provide significant low frequency attenuation whilst providing passive ventilation for applications such as air source heat pumps.

About the speaker:

Dr Daniel Elford is Chief Technology Officer at Sonobex Limited and co-founded the company in 2012, a spin-out from the Department of Physics at Loughborough University.  He graduated from Loughborough University with a first-class degree in Engineering Physics in 2007 and holds a PhD in Engineering Physics from Loughborough University.  He has over 12 years’ experience in acoustics and is a Royal Academy of Engineering SME Leader (2018) and former Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow.  Dr Elford is responsible for establishing Sonobex’s technical vision and leading aspects of research development, including managing and defining the company’s intellectual property portfolio and strategy.  He also leads the team of acoustic engineers, developing innovative noise control solutions with the use of finite element simulations.

In 2019, Dr Elford was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Silver Medal and has published a number of scientific papers in the field of acoustics and noise control, and presented at many prestigious acoustics conferences.
