Peter is a Fellow of the IOA with over 30 years experience in combined areas of work in Environmental Health for 5 years in Wales and 25 years as a consultant. His background in Physics and Medical Physics means he keeps the science applied to the human condition as the main focus of his work. He leads the IOA on sustainability matters and has his own consultancy called Sustainable Acoustics, which is a carbon neutral business. His drive is to use acoustics to make life better.
This leads neatly into what he will cover, which is why this led to him thinking about how lightweight low embodied carbon buildings will work with uses like gyms, and how standardising a methodology would be a good idea. This led to about 5 years work that resulted in the new ProPG Gym Acoustics Guidance, which we will go through highlights of an provide a chance for discussion and questions to get a deeper meaning of what is behind the text. The insights of reaching this outcome as consensus of an expert panel, and perhaps more importantly the things left unsaid.

AGENDA
The current Chair of the Irish Branch (James Mangan) is at the end of a three-year term and has chosen to not stand again. Nominations for the role of Chair must be emailed to the Branch Secretary at dbrosnan@mkoireland.ie before 17:00hrs on 22 September 2024. A valid nomination must include the name of the candidate, a proposer and a seconder all of whom must be members of the Irish Branch of the Institute of Acoustics.
6 Election of Members the Branch Management Committee
The Management Committee of the Branch, the Executive Committee, or any two members of the Branch may nominate a member of the Regional Branch as a candidate for the Management Committee. No member of the Branch may nominate more than one person to the Management Committee at any one AGM. All contested elections to the Management Committee will be by ballot of those present. In the event of a tied vote the Chair of the Meeting will have a second (casting) vote.
This year there are three vacancies due to current Committee Members ending their three-year term. The three current members of the Committee at the end of their three year term are Paul McCullough (Vice-Chair), Damian Brosnan (Secretary) and Damian Kelly. All three have expressed a willingness to be re-elected to the Branch Management Committee.
The opportunity is given for anyone who is a member (any IOA grade) of the IOA Irish Branch to stand for Election (for which two proposers who are members of the Irish Branch of the Institute of Acoustics were required). Nominations may be received at the AGM.
