The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Avon Gorge and the River Avon, linking Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset. Since opening in 1864, it has been a toll bridge, the income from which provides funds for its maintenance.
Join us for a tour of the Clifton Suspension Bridge vaults and at 16:00 followed by a short presentation on acoustic consultancy over the last 50 years at 17:30 and then a short walk to the Brunel Raj for a curry.
During the tour of the vaults we may have the opportunity to take some reverberation time measurements, the logistics of which will need to be planned beforehand (let andrew.jarvis@wsp.com know if you are keen to help). For those of us who don’t fancy climbing ladders and squeezing into some potentially claustrophobic spaces (and if the ladders are too wet to be safe), and alternative tour across the bridge will be available.
The IOA presentation will draw on the experience of a few IOA members, each representing different periods of the past 50 years and will draw out what has changed, what has stayed the same, and what perhaps lies ahead.
Everyone welcome, please register to book your place.
