A presentation by Dr Lara Diaz Garcia, followed by an opportunity for Q&A and informal chat.

Presentation’s synopsis

Dr Lara Diaz Garcia will give an overview of and look into the interesting world of bioacoustics applications and the research currently being done at Strathclyde University’s Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering.

About the speaker

Dr Lara Díaz García gained her BSc in Physics from the Universidad de La Laguna in Tenerife, Spain and her MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology from the University of Edinburgh. She then worked in adaptive optics for a year before pursuing her PhD in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering department of the University of Strathclyde. After completing her PhD in bio-inspired acoustic sensors, she is now a Research Associate at the Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering, also at Strathclyde. Her main research interests are bioacoustics and bio-inspiration for sensor design.

Getting there

  • Trains to either Glasgow Central Station or Glasgow Queens Street Station, both of which are a short walk away from the WSP office.
  • Buses are available stopping on Queen Street as well as Buchanan Bus Station, which is a 5 – 10 minute walk from the WSP office.
  • Underground train to either Buchanan Street Subway station or Argyle Street Subway station, both of which are a short walk to the WSP office.
  • Parking is expensive and very limited, but there are a number of NCP car parks a short walk away.
