Please join us Thursday 27th February for our Eastern Region AGM and for a talk on ‘the Role of Soundwalks and Results from the September walk’. We shall run through out AGM first before having a presentation on the role of soundwalk and results from the September walk. The presentation will be given by Mat Tuora and Sam Ward, who led the sound walk and have provided the following synopsis on their talk:

‘On the 19th of September 2024, the Eastern Branch undertook a Sound Walk around the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Campus, Chelmsford. The study involved visiting various locations around the Campus and providing feedback in the form of a questionnaire. In this talk we will go over the data collected during the sound walk, and we invite an open discussion on soundwalks in general.

BS ISO 12913:2014 Acoustics – Soundscapes looks at the methods of defining soundscapes, with regard to communicating across disciplines and professions with an interest in soundscapes. An interesting concept within this series of standards is the use of soundwalks to critically assess an environment. Using this approach to underpin qualitative assessment has become more and more common in planning and design.

We look forward to seeing you there!’
