Awareness of the need to protect workers from damaging noise levels has never been higher, and buyers and users of machinery and tools now expect suppliers to refine their products for reduced noise, achieving better than minimum legislation. Best practice in noise control has also developed significantly in recent decades, and new methods and technologies abound. The aim of a recent workshop was to share knowledge and experience on recent developments in "quiet by design" for workplace machinery. This event supported the HSE’s ongoing initiatives for noise control by promoting the development, supply and purchase of low noise equipment.
