Noise from outdoor equipment - used in construction and landscaping/gardening - has since 2001 been regulated in the UK in line with an EU Directive. The EU have now updated their regulations on in line with technological progress in methods for measuring noise. The Office for Product Safety Standards are considering whether implementing the same approach in the UK will support business. On 4 September 2024, the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill was introduced into Parliament, which will provide enabling powers that will allow the Government to update our outdoor equipment regulations should it decide to do so. This Call for Evidence is aims to aid understanding of the potential benefits and costs of introducing these measures and inform a final position and the detail of any potential secondary legislation.
The consultation is open until November 11th.
