A presentation by Anthony Chilton of Max Fordham Acoustics
Where residential developments rely on opening windows as a means to mitigate overheating, there can be a compromise between allowing excessive noise ingress with windows open, or excessive temperatures with windows closed. This problem is exacerbated by the move towards better insulated, more airtight buildings and the need, particularly in urban areas, to consider development on noisier sites.
The ANC 'AVO' guide recommends an approach to acoustic assessments for new residential development that takes due regard of the interdependence of provisions for acoustics, ventilation, and overheating. This talk presents an overview of the guide together with some case studies of acoustically attenuated passive ventilation solutions.
The meeting will be followed by the South West branch Annual General Meeting, where committee members will be elected. In particular we are looking for a new Young Members Representative for the branch, if you are under 35 or new to your acoustics career please let us know if you would be interested to get involved.
