Tour at the Acoustics, Structures and Fire Resistance labs at the Building Test Centre

Our acoustic lab areas consist of a horizontal test suite, vertical test suite and reverberation room, covering airborne sound insulation, impact, and absorption testing. In structures we have two BS5234 test rigs up to 14.5m high which are used to evaluate duty ratings of partitions, as well as test rigs for uniformly distributed load and racking tests.  The fire resistance area underwent a full refurbishment in 2023 and there are two state of the art furnaces for full-scale tests.  We can walk you around each of these areas, talking about the testing and our services. All of these tests are UKAS accredited.

Please note that as this is a working lab, there may be some area restrictions depending on what testing is happening at the time

The full tour should take about an hour, maybe a bit longer if there are lots of questions! We can accommodate up to 14 attendees. Please bring your own safety shoes if you have them.
