The Scottish Government are undertaking a second stage consultation on introducing a Scottish equivalent Passivhaus standard through building regulations.
The Scottish Government are consulting on the second stage of their consultation on introducing a Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus through building regulations. The proposals build on an initial consultation on a standard “to introduce new minimum environmental design standards for all new build housing to meet a Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard, in order to improve energy efficiency and thermal performance” undertaken in 2024, to which the IOA responded.
In our response, the potential risks to occupants of noise from ventilation, cooling and heating systems were highlighted. It was suggested that the Stage 2 consultation contain further detail and guidance on acceptable sound levels generated by these systems and that further guidance will be required within a future revision of the Building Regulations on the issue of overheating and noise. In this new draft there is still no mention of noise. Our Scottish Branch are considering their response.
The consultation is open until October 16th.
