Replacement guidance for assessment and rating of wind turbine noise endorses IOA good practice guidance
A replacement for ETSU-R-97 for the assessment and rating of wind turbine noise, has been published by the Government. The Assessment and Rating of Wind Turbine Noise (ARWTN), endorses good practice guidance produced by the Institute of Acoustics. In this refreshed guidance, noise limits have not changed, and assessment principles are generally the same as before. The ARWTN does introduce new terminology and clarifications.
For the assessment of wind turbine noise IOA have set out a statement advising on good practice, and practitioners should continue to use the IOA Good Practice Guide published in 2013, alongside the six 2014 Supplementary Guidance Notes. These cover the following technical areas: SGN 1: Data Collection; SGN 2: Data Processing & Derivation of ETSU-R-97 Background Noise Curves; SGN 3: Sound Power Level Data; SGN 4: Wind Shear; SGN 5: Post Completion Measurements; SGN 6: Noise Propagation Over Water, until updates are issued later this year.
