The Senior Members Group is pleased to invite Members to a Technical visit to John Taylor & Co (Loughborough Bell Foundry and Museum on Tuesday 20th October.

John Taylor & Co is the last remaining major bell foundry and has been operating since 1859.

The foundry casts and restores bells for cathedrals, churches, and institutions worldwide and the site operates as a working foundry alongside the Loughborough Bellfoundry Trust, which preserves the historic Grade II* listed buildings and operates a museum following a major restoration project.

Pre registration is required as there are limited spaces

TRAVEL 

 

The nearest train station is Loughborough, which is 0.5 miles away (11 minute walk).
We are just 0.5 miles (or a 10 minute walk) from the Great Central Railway Loughborough terminus.
It is 0.7 miles (or a 13 minute walk) to Queen’s Park in Loughborough Town Centre. The park is home to the Charnwood Museum, the ‘Great Paul’ Bell Mould, the Loughborough Carillon Tower and War Memorial and the Hope Bell Memorial.

 

PARKING


There is limited on-street parking in front of the museum building. Visitors can also use one or two small carparks directly opposite the main John Taylor & Co

ALL visitors and clients need to be mindful that they will be walking primarily through a working industrial site. We ask everyone to follow the health and safety
rules outlined below:

  1. Listen to & follow all instructions given by staff & volunteers.
  2. Stay within the yellow lines.
  3. Do NOT touch or move anything, including bells (unless instructed to do so).
  4. Objects around you may be: Hot, dirty, wet, harmful, sharp, unsteady or in place for your safety.
  5. Please respect staff workspaces, tools, equipment & materials.
  6. If staff are on machinery, please DO NOT approach them to ask questions or photograph them.
  7. PLEASE stay with the Tour group and DO NOT loiter or wander off alone.

CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR


As this tour takes place inside a working industrial site, visitors please wear flat, closed shoes (please avoid shoes or sandals with open toes or backs)!*

Dress warmly in cold weather, remember the factory is Victorian!
