A consultation on changes to Permitted Development Rights in England has been published this week.
Proposed changes relate to planning rules around air source heat pumps (ASHP) and home extensions.
The proposed changes include removing the rule regarding installing ASHPs within one metre of a property boundary.
The maximum permissible size of an ASHP under permitted development is proposed to be increased from 0.6 cubic metres.
Subject to a noise assessment methodology, permitting two air source heat pumps within the curtilage of a dwelling under permitted development is proposed.
Allowing the installation of more than one ASHP unit in stand-alone blocks of flats, subject to prior approval, is proposed.
Home extensions, like rear or side extensions and roof extensions, are included in the permitted development rights.
The consultation closes on 9 April 2024.
