Fusion energy consultation comments

The IOA Renewable Energy Advisory Group have responded to the UK Government consultation on EN-8 – a new National Policy Statement for fusion energy infrastructure for England and Wales. This aims to align fusion with other energy generating technologies. So far as noise and vibration are concerned, we welcome draft EN-8 as a clear and coherent framework. In deferring to the assessment principles in Overarching National Policy Statement for Energy EN-1, it avoids duplication across the suite of energy National Policy Statements. This preserves a single, well understood basis for noise assessment that is already familiar to those who will have to apply it. IOA also considers the Appraisal of Sustainability (AoS) reasonable and appropriate, welcoming changes made since the scoping stage, including acceptance of IOA recommendations that the AoS should address the effects of construction and operational noise and vibration on local wildlife, including marine life and protected species.
