It is applicable to the design of new buildings, or refurbished buildings undergoing a change of use. BS 8233 is frequently used by IOA members and a fundamental part of residential planning policy and the design and construction of a wide range of buildings. The revised standard proposes significant changes including changing the recommended approach for assessing dwellings, sound in offices, sound from building services and guidance on sound insulation of open windows for overheating.
