Forthcoming IOA Certificate Courses in 2026

Whether you are building foundational knowledge or enhancing specialist expertise, IOA training offers a recognised pathway to career progression. Benefits include industry-respected qualifications, practical skills development, and access to new professional opportunities—helping you take the next step in your acoustics career.

 

Courses Running Before Summer 2026

 

A number of courses are scheduled between now and July, including:

  • Environmental Noise Measurement
  • Soundscape Assessment
  • Management of Occupational Exposure to Hand-Arm Vibration

Availability varies by centre, with some courses running only once per year—early booking is strongly recommended. Autumn dates are also available for forward planning.

 


 

Certificate Courses in 2026

 

Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement (CCENM)

The flagship 5-day course offering essential training in environmental noise measurement techniques. Candidates gain hands-on experience with instrumentation and develop an understanding of measurement processes, standards, and legislative frameworks.

Examination dates: 15 May and 9 October 2026

 


 

Certificate Course in Soundscape Assessment (CCSA)

This 5-day course introduces soundscape theory and practice, aligned with ISO 12913 standards. Candidates explore human perception of sound, data collection, and analysis techniques, with a focus on wellbeing and environmental design.

Examination dates:

  • 15 May 2026 (UCL)
  • 23 October 2026 (University of Salford)

 


 

Certificate Course in the Management of Occupational Exposure to Hand-Arm Vibration (CCMOEHAV)

Delivered in 2026 at KP Acoustics Research Labs (Southampton), this course equips candidates with the knowledge to assess and manage vibration risks in the workplace. It supports compliance with UK health and safety legislation and HSE guidance.

Examination date: 17 July 2026

 


 

Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment (CCWNRA)

Designed to meet the requirements of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, this course combines core acoustics knowledge with practical workplace measurement skills. It is ideal for those undertaking occupational noise assessments.

Examination date: 25 September 2026

 


 

Advanced Certificate Course in Report Evaluation (ACCRE)

 

A 3-day advanced course focused on the critical appraisal of technical reports. Particularly suited to those responsible for report sign-off, compliance, or quality assurance.

Examination dates:

  • 29 September – 1 October 2026 (Scotland, Glenrothes)
  • 9 – 11 November 2026 (Southampton)

 


 

Certificate of Competence in Building Acoustics Measurement (CCBAM)

This course covers methodologies for sound insulation testing and room acoustics, supported by practical sessions and an overview of relevant regulations and standards.

Examination date: 6 November 2026

 


 

Certificate of Competence in Technical Report Writing (CCTRW)

A 3-day course focused on effective technical communication. It provides guidance on structuring reports, presenting data clearly, and improving overall reporting quality—particularly valuable for early-career professionals.

Examination date: To be confirmed (subject to demand)

 


 

New and Emerging Training

Certificate of Proficiency in Environmental Vibration Measurement (CPEVM) (Pilot)

Expressions of interest are sought for this new 4-day course, planned for late 2026 or early 2027. It will provide essential skills in measuring and analysing environmental vibration, addressing a growing demand in planning, construction, and infrastructure projects.
