Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts

Mount Street, Liverpool, L1 9HF

Wednesday 7 May 2025
17:45 for 18:00pm

The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) opened in 1996 to forge a new approach to performing arts training. It was co-founded by Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty, and is housed in Paul McCartney's old school building, which underwent a multi-million pound renovation to transform it into a state-of-the-art performing arts higher education institution.

Almost thirty years later, LIPA is an acknowledged part of the UK’s higher education provision for the performing arts, recognised and ranked alongside more established institutions. LIPA provides education and training for performers and those who make performance possible, uniquely blending specialist and generic skills.

The institution delivers degree courses in Acting, Dance, Performing Arts Management, Music, Sound Technology, Film Making and Theatre Design Technology. Many graduates from all these disciplines have successful careers as performers, technicians and many other roles across the industry and around the world.

The facilities at LIPA include two theatre spaces, six recording studios, a TV studio and a range of teaching rehearsal rooms. The tour will focus on the main recording studio spaces and the auditorium where we will consider some significant acoustic features of the spaces and discuss how the facilities are used.

Please note:

Due to limited space prior registration is essential and numbers are limited to 20 places.  Only those registered will be able to enter.
