Dealing with the “new whiplash”, protecting yourself against the epidemic of occupational noise-induced hearing loss claims

Dr Sarah Haynes

RHMA Forensic Expert and Witness Service,

Civil claims for occupational noise-induced hearing loss are at an all-time high, to the extent that this issue is now being referred to as the 'new whiplash', with many claims now coming from industries not previously considered to pose a risk of noise damage.  Dr Sarah Haynes, an expert witness and former HSE specialist noise and vibration inspector, will describe the claims process, steps to take to help reduce noise risk and how to handle or, better still, avoid noise claims in the future.  Many businesses and acoustics consultants produce records of noise levels in industrial premises, but these rarely contain the right information needed to successfully defend an historic claim, yet with small alterations they can be greatly improved so that they not only help manage current noise risk, but also help protect against future claims.
