Building Regulations Approved Document E is designed to protect occupants in residential buildings, from transmitted sound in other parts of the same building and other attached buildings.

Peter will present a personal perspective from a variety of sound insulation investigations at residential properties, and will ask whether the current Building Regulations are sufficiently robust for safeguarding the health and wellbeing of residents.

Arguments for a more holistic approach, to include external noise, ventilation noise, structure-borne noise, spectral performance, customer expectations and rating systems, as well as best practice guides for builders will also discussed.

Following the talk, members will be encouraged to share their own experiences, opinions and ideas for future research, Regulations and guidance.

Peter has 20 years’ experience in research, compliance, warranty, inspection and consultancy, in relation to sound insulation in residential buildings. He was recently NHBC’s Principal Acoustic Consultant.

Topics and speakers for the evening meetings are generally identified and organised by the London Branch Committee, but we always welcome new ideas and suggestions for future presentations.
