Current legislation and guidance typically addresses internal noise levels separately from ventilation provision.
Overheating assessments, where carried out, rarely consider the impact of external noise if using opening windows, although “excessive” external noise is often cited as a factor contributing to overheating.
Jack Harvie-Clark will describe the work in hand by the Association of Noise Consultants to produce a guide for acousticians to facilitate consideration of noise with ventilation and overheating conditions.
