It has been decided to postpone the AGM until early 2020 to allow some election matters to be resolved. At present both Diarmuid Keaney (of ICAN Acoustics) and James Mangan (of the RSK Group) are being proposed for the role of Chairperson and the details of the election have yet to be finalised.
Evening Meeting by Stephen Byrnes of TII:
As specified in the Environmental Noise Regulations, which transposed the EU Environmental Noise Directive, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) are required to prepare strategic noise maps for Major Roads classified as national roads outside agglomerations. The responsibility for mapping non-national Major Roads lies with the relevant local authority within whose functional area the road resides. Therefore, multiple authorities have mapping responsibilities for Major Roads in Ireland. This has the potential to lead to an inconsistent approach to mapping and the possibility of ‘double-counting’ in population exposure assessments. In December 2016 a “Centralised Approach” was agreed for Phase III mapping and TII, as lead body, prepared maps for approximately 4,500km of national and non-national roads within 25 counties.
This presentation will detail TII’s Phase III mapping project and challenges faced. Stephen’s talk will also provide an overview of TII’s involvement in acoustic research through the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) along with ongoing research closer to home.
As always there will be a chance for Q&A at the end of the presentation.
In order to assist with planning seating, please confirm to Diarmuid Keaney (see details below) if you propose to attend this meeting.
