 London Branch Online Meeting
Acoustic Facades
Acoustics, ventilation and overheating- where next?
Colin Cobbing –
Tuesday 28 September 2021
6 pm

Colin will provide his perspectives on Good Acoustic Design with respect to the integration of acoustics, ventilation, and overheating.  He will discuss a range of passive design solutions which should be considered as part of a good acoustic design process, as recommended by the Professional Practice Guidance on Planning and Noise for New Residential Development (May 2017).

He will then describe and explore emerging policy and regulation on overheating and discuss how passive design solutions can be used to optimise acoustic and thermal conditions.

The talk will round up with a discussion about the current issues associated with the ProPG and Acoustics Ventilation and Overheating Residential Design Guide and how these guidance documents could be updated and harmonised to reflect innovative design solutions and future changes to policy and regulation.

Colin has over 30 years of experience of taking complex and high-profile projects from inception through planning, design, build and into operation.  He is a leading advocate for human centred and total design solutions, optimising all aspects design that affect human health and comfort and which impact on the environment.

Colin has been a pro-active contributor to the development of best practice in noise assessment and sustainable design and has been integrally involved in the production of standards and guidance documents that are used in planning and designing new development. For example, was one of a small group of practitioners who brought the CIEH, IOA and the ANC together to produce the Professional Practice Guidance: Planning and Noise for New Residential Development.  He was also a core member of the ProPG working group.
