Join us for a lively and informative discussion on the latest developments when monitoring sound for an environmental permit
The Winter meeting of the Institute of Acoustics Environmental Sound Group (ESG) is just around the corner, and it's shaping up to be a must-attend event!
The Winter quarterly meeting of the IOA Environmental Sound Group (ESG) is coming up on Wednesday, December 13th at 12:30 online. This meeting is hosted by the University of Salford and will feature technical specialists on noise from the Environment Agency (EA) explaining how to use the 'BS 4142 Method for rating and assessing industrial and commercial sound' when monitoring sound for an environmental permit.
BS 4142 is the standard that must be followed for the assessment of most industrial sound sources, but it's often misinterpreted, particularly in relation to estimating uncertainty of the assessment and in terms of context in which the sound occurs. The Environment Agency's Method implementation document (MID) for BS 4142 was recently published to improve the quality of environmental measurements and assessments of noise impact received by the Agency.
In their presentation, the Environment Agency's technical specialists will describe the MID, particularly in relation to the most misinterpreted elements of BS 4142, and highlight the areas of concern. They'll also discuss how the MID is used to regulate noise from A1 (large) industries, and the requirements for noise management plans.
After the presentations, there will be a Q&A session with the technical specialists, and group discussion. This is a great opportunity to learn from the experts and share your own experiences and insights.
So, whether you're a seasoned environmental acoustics professional or just starting out, the Institute of Acoustics Environmental Sound Group Winter meeting is the perfect place to get the latest information on BS 4142 and the Environment Agency's approach to noise regulation. Register today and join us for a lively and informative discussion!
P.S. Don't forget to bring your sense of humour. The ESG is known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and there's always plenty of laughter at our meetings.
