World Hum Map and Database Project

The Irish Branch of the Institute of Acoustics invites you to attend an online presentation by Dr Glen MacPherson, founder and host of the World Hum Map and Database Project. 

Dr. MacPherson established the website thehum.info to allow people around the world to report experiences of low-frequency sound, commonly referred to as “the Hum.” Since the database’s inception, it has received numerous self-reported events, with some individuals hearing the sound while others in the exact same location do not.

In this talk, Dr. MacPherson will explain the motivation behind the database and discuss patterns and insights emerging from the reported events. For acoustic consultants, this topic is particularly relevant, as we often encounter complainants who perceive noise that others cannot hear. The presentation offers a valuable opportunity to explore how this phenomenon is experienced globally and under what conditions it may occur.
