The IOA Southern Branch welcomes Rob Shepherd, Director at Hayes McKenzie and one of the technical leads who helped develop the new Assessment and Rating of Wind Turbine Noise (ARWTN) guidance.

Published in June 2026, ARWTN replaces ETSU-R-97 after nearly three decades as the principal reference for assessing and controlling wind turbine noise in the UK. Its arrival marks an important development for acoustic consultants, planning authorities and the wind energy sector.

Drawing on his involvement in the drafting process, Rob will explain the key changes, the thinking behind them and their implications in practice. The presentation will set out what has changed, what has not, and the various implications for wind turbine noise assessments.

As always, the event is free to members of the IoA, as well as to students and the public. CPD certification will be offered for attendance, wait for the QR code that will be shown/shared at the end of the presentation.

The event will be recorded but not the Q&A.
