The May/June 2023 issue of Acoustics Bulletin has a wellbeing vibe to it and will be with members shortly and apart from all the regulars, it includes these articles:
- Nic Wray, the Communications Manager at Tinnitus UK, reports on her organisation’s research that shows that having a good time can leave more than memories
- Philip Newell FIOA shares his very personal experience of his own insidiously progressive hearing degradation, and the way in which it affected his perception while he was primarily working as a designer of recording studios and loudspeaker systems
- Then in her article on page 32, Professor Charlotte Clarke writes that the UK is overdue a large-scale study assessing mental health, wellbeing and quality of life impacts for different noise sources to inform policy, assessments, and mitigation
- The IOA and ANC has produced new guidance that provides sound advice on acoustics in gym environments (page 8) then on page 46, read about important additions to IOA Code of Conduct Rules
- There’s an article from the Environment Agency that explains the differences between the permitting and planning regimes and clarifies the EA’s position on issues such as perceived ‘dual regulation’ and the impact proposed residential developments have on EA-regulated sites
- UK National Parks welcome 110 million visitors each year, but this level of tourism represents a threat to park’s ecosystem and the visitors’ experience. Read how a research initiative formed in 2022 aims to explore how the ISO 12913 series methods translate to environments of outstanding natural beauty, and to understand the potential improvements that would effectively characterise soundscapes in such areas
- The IOA Building Acoustics Group (BAG) has produced a framework for building designers to implement sustainable design. Sustainable Building Acoustic Design – a Practical Framework provides a simple framework to influence the sustainability of the designs in which acousticians are involved
- There’s plenty more, but if you feel there are gaps in Acoustics Bulletin and you’d like to see articles on other subjects please contact the editor, Nicky Rogers, at nickyr
warnersgroup.co.uk (nickyr[at]warnersgroup[dot]co[dot]uk)
Just to remind you about our technical articles. Although they are not peer reviewed, they all go through an internal checking process via the IOA Publications Committee and their panel of volunteer experts. This is intended to highlight any discrepancies in the articles, or areas that may need clarification, which are then referred back to authors for amends.
The deadline for the next issue (July/August 2023) issue is Thursday 8 June 2023 at the very latest please. If you have a technical article that you’d like to submit for consideration, please email the editor at nickyrwarnersgroup.co.uk (nickyr[at]warnersgroup[dot]co[dot]uk) at any time.
