Last week Stephen Turner (IOA President) responded to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) consultation on phasing out the installation of fossil fuel heating in homes off the gas grid.  One of the things that came to light when preparing the response was the lack of objective data there is on how widespread complaints are about noise from existing domestic air-source heat pumps (ASHPs), a subject that has sparked debate on social media.

In response to this, a survey has been created to capture the experience of complaints about noise from ASHPs from the perspective of members of the public, noise consultants and environmental health professionals.  It should be stressed that the survey seeks to garner responses from people who have not received complaints or complained themselves, as well as those who have received complaints or complained about noise from domestic ASHPs. The aim is to capture a representative view of how widespread complaints are about noise from domestic ASHPs in the UK to inform future decision making.
