The Acoustics, Ventilation, Overheating: Residential Design Guide1,2 (“The AVO Guide”) was launched by the Association of Noise Consultants and Institute of Acoustics in January 2020. It is anticipated that it will quickly become a standard reference for practitioners in the UK when considering noise affecting new residential development. It represents a significant step forwards in guidance, by integrating considerations for noise with the ventilation strategy and provisions for mitigating overheating. The AVO Guide was developed by a group of industry experts (see Acknowledgements for full list of members), with additional input from associated professionals working in other disciplines. Appendix B of the AVO Guide provides examples of how the guidance contained in the main part of the guide might be applied.
