Views are now being sought on an update to guidance on the assessment and rating of onshore wind turbines. The guidance currently in use was published in 1996. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero state that the aim of this technical guidance is to provide advice to local authorities on appraising planning applications for onshore wind; aid the deployment of suitable wind developments and ensure noise is robustly controlled. They further state that proposed updates have been developed working closely with acoustic experts and leading scientists and aim to align the guidance with available evidence, developments in turbine technology and wind turbine noise assessment methodologies and government policies on noise and net zero. The IOA are convening a working group to respond to the consultation - which is open until August 29th.
