24 hour gym permitted despite residents' noise concerns Planning permission has been granted for a 24 hour gym, underneath residential flats in West Sussex, although 74 objections from neighbours were received. Objections cited concerns about noise from music, impact noise, traffic and gym goers during the night. A neighbouring dental practice also expressed concern about potential distrubance. A noise assessment of the proposed development refers to the Gym Acoustics Guidance, published last year by the ANC, IOA and CIEH. The assessment recommends that with number of mitigation measures in place there should not be a noise impact on residents. Read more
Consultation response to revision of national planning policy framework The IOA have responded to the consultation on the revising the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) for England, and wider planning policy. Our response states that the main noise management policies in place in the NPPF do work, however we advise that they must be implemented properly. Members of the IOA and other professional organisations are working hard to strike the balance between effective noise management and other societal needs, and have produced guidance to assist developers and others with responsibility for securing good quality healthy homes.
