A newly launched celebration of everyday sound (not music) in all its forms presented by The Museum Of Sound in partnership with The New BBC Radiophonic Workshop and others. It is a UK-based awards ceremony this year but submissions are encouraged from around the world. 

The awards aim to highlight the rapidly-expanding international community of sound professionals and enthusiasts.  

There will be an awards ceremony in 2021.

The A B Wood Medal is a prize awarded annually by the Institute of Acoustics for "distinguished contributions to the application of underwater acoustics". The prize, named after Albert Beaumont Wood, is presented in alternate years to European and North American scientists.

A generation of young people are rapidly reassessing their career dreams according to research released to mark the start of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2020 (#TEWeek20).

Over one in five 11 to 19 year olds agreed that what they want to do as a career has changed (22%) and 30% agreed that what career they can do has changed as a result of the pandemic. [1]

The report authors claim that this suggests that the pandemic is affecting – and in some cases, constraining – young people’s careers aspirations.

The IOA has produced an Innovations supplement to promote the work of IOA members to professionals who work, or are indirectly involved in, some aspect of acoustics but are not currently IOA members.

Its purpose is to encourage discussions/thought leadership in acoustics to the wider ‘acoustics-related’ communities, and for engineers who touch on the areas of acoustics although it may not be their full-time occupation.
