The downloadable 'ProPG and AVOG' Acoustics Bulletin article was recently published in our July-August 2021 issue.

The ProPG: Planning & Noise, May 2017 (‘ProPG’) is jointly published guidance issued by the CIEH, IOA and the ANC. The Acoustics Ventilation and Overheating Residential Design Guide, Version 1.1, 2020 (‘AVOG’) was published jointly by the ANC and the IOA.

The Government has published a further revision to the English National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

In this latest version, whilst the substance of the references to noise remain unaltered, paragraph numbers in the document have changed.

These changes are as follows

1. Paragraph 170  which stated  - “Planning policies and decisions should contribute to and enhance the natural and local environment by:

Education is possibly the most important activity of the IOA.

As yet the Institute does not have an award dedicated to celebrate and recognise excellence in teaching, learning or other education activities.

The IOA council approved in 2020 the proposal by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina of London South Bank University (LSBU) to instate a dedicated education award named after late Dr Bob Peters.

INTER-NOISE 2021 will be a premier congress with an outstanding technical program and a great featured lectures lineup. Although the 50th congress will be hosted virtually, there will be plenty of opportunities for interactions via networking sessions and live Q&A during all presentations. The daily program (August 1-5) has been extended to 15-hour sessions to accommodate the geographical convenience of our authors and attendees from 25+ countries in the Asia/Pacific, Europe/Africa, and Americas regions.

Bridget Shield has been awarded an MBE in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours list, announced on June 12th.  The citation states that the award is ‘for services to Acoustic Science and for voluntary service to Inclusion in Science and Engineering.'

Bridget retired from London South Bank University (LSBU) after nearly 30 years teaching and research. The award of the MBE is in recognition of her influence, through her research, lobbying and work with government departments, in writing and maintaining building regulations and guidance concerning the acoustic design of schools.

The Institute of Acoustics is marking the International Year of Sound ('20-'21) by holding a competition for secondary schools as an opportunity to introduce students to the concept of soundscape and encourage them to listen more carefully to the world around them.
