Gym Acoustics Guidance consultation launched

ANC, IOA and CIEH have worked together, collaborating cross industry, to produce a guidance, which for the first time standardises an approach on assessing gym acoustics. The guidance is based largely on the experience and current state of knowledge of the Working Group at the time of writing.

Acousticians urged to support STEM challenge

Update 15 September:

Deadline extended for acoustics STEM challenge

A last call for entries is being made for an acoustics initiative that shows schoolchildren examples of the opportunities involving STEM.

The Noise Abatement Society’s John Connell STEM award, sponsored by the Association of Noise Consultants and ANV Measurement Systems, has extended its deadline to the 1 October 2021.

DfT has announced that ICCAN is to be wound down this month

The government (DfT) has announced that ICCAN will be wound down in September. This will be followed by a transitional phase during which the Department for Transport will work with the CAA, which will take on the majority of ICCAN’s former functions from April 2022. The CAA also plans to establish a new Environment Panel to provide it with independent expert advice on a range of environmental issues including carbon, air-quality and noise. ICCAN’s existing functions not transferred to the CAA, will remain within the Department for Transport.

Chairs provide leadership, guide the consensus-building process and help develop and set the committee's work programme. This voluntary position requires a higher level of commitment than the committee member role. Much of the work is done online, with most standards-making groups meeting a few times each year, currently virtually.
